National Day of the People’s Republic of China 国庆节

The National Day of the People’s Republic of China is the main state holiday of China. It is celebrated every year on October 1st. This year marks the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the PRC, which was proclaimed on October 1, 1949, by Mao Zedong in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

The holiday begins with the ceremonial raising of the flag of the People’s Republic of China in Tiananmen Square. Local celebrations and rallies take place all over the country. Festive posters and huge compositions of flowers decorate the streets of cities. Fireworks are traditionally set off in the evening.

During these holidays known as the “Golden Week”, all stores offer attractive discounts, new movies are released, the Chinese go travelling (so avoid travelling in this period because all attractions are very crowded!)
